• Scam? No way! I consider this academy to be more legitimate than some of the Nobel Prize winners. Here are some Nobel Horror Stories:
  • Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev should have won the 1906 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for organizing the elements into the periodic table.

  • John Macleod who merely oversaw the research on insulin co-won the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine with Frederick Banting instead of Charles Best, a lowly graduate student who actually did the real work with Banting.

  • Lise Meitner should have won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the radiochemical discovery of the nuclear fission of uranium and thorium in 1944 in addition to Otto Hahn.

  • Bill Cochran, not Rosalind Franklin, should have won the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine for the discovery of DNA in addition to Francis Crick and James Watson.

  • Peter H. Proctor, John E. McGinness and Mrinal Thakur should have won the 2000 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of conductive plastics instead of Alan J. Heeger, Alan G. MacDiarmid and Hideki Shirakawa.

  • Michael Karas and Franz Hillenkamp should have won the 2002 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of methods for identification and structure analyses of biological macromolecules instead of Koichi Tanaka.

  • Raymond V. Damadian should have won the 2003 Nobel Prize in Medicine for the discovery of MRI instead of Paul C. Lauterbur and Peter Mansfield.

  • John F. Nash almost did not win the 1994 pseudo-Nobel Prize in Economics because the Committee heard of his mental illness after the decision was made, despite the merit of his theory.

  • Albert Einstein won the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for photoelectric effect, not for the theories of relativity.

  • Uncle Al was almost nominated for a Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1998 for his work on artificial diamonds.

  • Jan Hendrik Schön of Bell Labs was considered a leading candidate for a Nobel Prize in Physics until he was found to have falsified and fabricated experimental data at least 16 times between 1998 and 2001.

• Enough to create a Nobel Hall of Shame for the prize winners who did not deserve the award, and vice versa?

• I hereby propose that the Nobel Prize be awarded not to individual human beings but to specific discoveries (papers) and/or inventions (patents).
