2012-06-30|Vidéotron's Wireless number portability

To whom it may concern

I have Residential Telephony Service with Vidéotron for telephone number 819-595-9210. I wanted to switch to Vidéotron's Mobile Service, so I started to chat with Vidéotron's customer service representative.

The representative told me that I cannot keep the same telephone number. I asked for a reason, and he/she told me that it is a rule by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). I looked up the CRTC rule which says the following.

Wireless number portability: keeping your phone number when you switch service providers

You can keep your phone number if you switch from a landline phone line to a wireless service provider. If you move out of your local exchange area at the same time as you change service providers, you may not be able to keep your number.

I am not moving out of my local exchange area, and I am not changing service providers (from Vidéotron to Vidéotron). So, please explain why I cannot keep my telephone number (819-595-9210) when I move from Vidéotron's Residential Telephony Service to Vidéotron's Mobile Service.
