The scope of the claims is broad and generic enough to apply not only to 3D Printing of fully functional replacement organs and tissues (skin, bone, cartilage, trachea, heart tissue such as aortic heart valves, etc.) but also to 3D Printing of food such as engineered comestible meat. There is no issue of 35 USC 101 Presumption of Validity (CLS Bank versus Alice).
It typically takes the technologies disclosed by fundamental patents more than 10 years after the publication to be fully developed and commercialized.
Therefore, US7051654 B2: "Ink-jet printing of viable cells" will be the most important 3D Printing patent with the broad range of potential applications in the next 10 years.
