Potential Discovery or Invention

The following crazy confusion can be avoided by mandating the use of parentheses.
PEMDAS (parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction).
- 6 - 1 * 0 + 2 / 2
  = 6 - ((1 * 0) + (2 / 2))
  = 6 - (0 + 1)
  = 6 - 1
  = 5
- 8 / 2 * (2 + 2)
  = 8 / (2 * (2 + 2))
  = 8 / (2 * 4)
  = 8 / 8
  = 1
- ...
BEDMAS (multiplication, division, exponents, brackets, subtraction, addition)
- 6 - 1 * 0 + 2 / 2
  = (6 - (1 * 0)) + (2 / 2)
  = (6 - 0) + 1
  = 6 + 1
  = 7
- 8 / 2 * (2 + 2)
  = (8 / 2) * (2 + 2)
  = 4 * 4
  = 16
- ...

I wonder how many scientific papers, technical reports and engineering reports have been published inadvertently using such tainted computational algorithm...
