• The fundamental question is: "What is race anyway?" If you measure the skin colour of human beings, the colour shading forms a continuous shade of brown. There are no clear lines separating among white, black, yellow, red, and green to categorise and label people into stereotypical visible majority or minority. There may be DNA sequences to suggest that some genes are dominant in certain groups, but science has proven that there are greater differences between individuals than between groups.

• The bottom line is: "If you cannot define race, then it is meaningless." The original purpose of race is to artificially divide people for political reasons. Therefore, the solution to achieve the objective of ending discrimination is not to have better race relations but to develop a society where every citizen belongs only to the human race. Canada has an opportunity to pioneer such a paradigm shift. The goal will be eventually achieved in the 23rd century, as seen in Star Trek. :-)

• In 1992, Ross Perot said "you people" in a speech, and he lost a presidential election. In 2019, Don Cherry said "you people" on TV, and he was fired. How come "you people" is considered divisive for society, but it is still acceptable in Canada today as "defining features of Canadians" to use equally divisive phrases like "non-whites", "visible minority", "ethnic minority", "racial minority", "racialised people" and "people of colour"?

• As for me, I have always self-identified myself as "Other: Homo sapiens" in censuses, surveys and questionnaires. I sincerely hope that McMaster University/The Globe and Mail/Maclean's will embrace scientifically logical facts and enlighten the Canadian society as such to make a difference.

To make a difference, do you think it possible for McMaster University to embrace scientifically logical facts and take an innovative approach to enlighten the population that the solution to achieve the objective of ending discrimination is not to have better race relations but to develop a society where citizens treat one another as Homo sapiens with no artificial divisions along the continuous shades of brown?
