2021-03-03|Fields Medal's Upper Age Limit

To whom it may concern

My engineer/mathematician/computer scientist son François has brought to my attention that the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences states:

A Brief History of the Fields medal: The Origins

Fields did not stipulate any age limit. This was done in subsequent years by the IMU in a series of decisions culminating in the one taken at the Moscow Congress (1960) where an upper age limit of 40 was taken.

Given the fact that such an upper age limit was imposed long before Section 15 (the equality provision) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which offers protection from age discrimination, please consider scrapping the upper age limit of 40.
