2022-02-11|Fermilab's Muon g-2 and MINERvA Experiments

To whom it may concern

• Muon g-2 uses Fermilab's powerful accelerators to explore the interactions of short-lived particles known as muons with a strong magnetic field in "empty" space.

• Does the muon beam comprise 100% pure muons only? If not, could there be a possibility that some charged contaminants (electrons, anti-protons, negative ions, etc.) may be affecting the result to deviate from g-2 even though the magnetic field is super-uniform (~50 ppm)?

• MINERvA (Main Injector Neutrino ExpeRiment to study v-A interactions) is the first neutrino experiment in the world to use a high-intensity beam to study neutrino reactions with 5 different nuclei, creating the first self-contained comparison of interactions in different elements.

• Is MINERvA capable of detecting and/or measuring neutrino oscillation (transformation among electron/muon/tau neutrinos) at all?

• Photomultipliers are vacuum tubes which have rather short lifetime compared to solid-state devices. Does it pose maintenance problem, i.e., having to replace PMTs quite often?

• Potassium (K) has radioactive isotope 40K. Are the researchers banned from eating potassium-rich foods (e.g., avocado, banana, etc.) before neutrino experiments which are extremely sensitive?
