2025-06-16|Sunatori's Screen Mirroring > Media Playback Speed
Potential Discovery or Invention
I watch educational videos and/or sci-fi movies every day for about 3 hours or more per day. On my iPhone, I can set media playback speed to 1.5x or higher on YouTube app (iOS) and on some streaming services apps.
Meanwhile, my Sony CRT (Cathode-Ray Tube) TV set is connected to Bell Streamer (Android TV).
However, I cannot change media playback speed on most streaming services via Android TV apps (except Criterion app). For example, YouTube complains "Not available on this device".
So, I launched Google Play Store app and installed AirMirror: TV Cast via AirPlay onto Bell Streamer (Android TV). Then, I tapped Screen Mirroring (not Casting) icon on my iPhone's Control Centre. Most streaming service apps still do not allow media playback speed control, including YouTube app which shows 2.0x but does not make it so.
I finally figured out that accessing YouTube.com website on Safari app (iOS) on my iPhone, screen mirroring to my Sony CRT TV set, allows media playback speed control to actually function!
However, free trial period is over, so I had to abandon the quest. Eventually, I found ad-supported app AirScreen - AirPlay & Cast on Google Play Store app to "Use it for free".
In fact, when mirroring expires after 15 minutes or so, AirMirror: TV Cast via AirPlay and AirScreen - AirPlay & Cast can be restarted by clicking "Yes" to "Terminate this application" or "Restart the receiver", respectively, for another 15 minutes. Even so, the process is quicker than commercial breaks.
